Hogans was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest around 4:30 a.m., said Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio in a release.

City police said they were called to the corner of 6th and Turner streets around 3:40 a.m. for reports of a "male waving a firearm." Officers said the man "fled on foot" after they arrived and a chase ensued.

Authorities claim the man "brandished a firearm and fired at officers" before they "returned fire, striking the suspect." Hogans was taken to the hospital where he died, they added.

The Coroner's Office said Tuesday, July 25 that Hogans' cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds by manner of homicide.

"Homicide by definition is 'the killing of one person by another,'" Buglio wrote. "Although I am ruling the manner of death a homicide, it is up to the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office to determine if a crime was committed."

In addition to the Coroner's Office and APD, Hogan's killing is under investigation by the District Attorney's Office and the county Homicide Task Force, officials said.

Loved ones posted tributes in Hogan's memory on Facebook Monday.
